About the Role

BEC Arabia is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Engineer to join our Environmental & Sustainability Department in Makkah. This pivotal role will focus on ensuring environmental compliance, promoting sustainability, and implementing green building practices across our diverse portfolio of infrastructure and construction projects. As part of BEC Arabia, you will play a critical role in advancing our commitment to environmental stewardship and aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's sustainability objectives.

In this position, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, design engineers, and site supervisors, to integrate environmental considerations into every phase of project execution. From conducting environmental impact assessments to ensuring adherence to local and international environmental regulations, your work will directly influence the success of high-profile projects in the Kingdom. Your day-to-day activities will include site inspections, environmental monitoring, and reporting, as well as providing technical guidance on sustainability initiatives such as Mostadam, LEED, and ISO 14001 standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and prepare detailed reports in compliance with Saudi regulations and international standards.
  • Ensure project adherence to environmental laws, including the Saudi Building Code (SBC) and applicable municipal regulations.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans (EMPs) for construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor construction sites for compliance with environmental and sustainability standards, including waste management and pollution control.
  • Coordinate with project teams to integrate green building practices, such as Mostadam, LEED, and ISO 14001 certifications.
  • Perform regular site inspections to identify potential environmental risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Provide technical guidance on sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and material reuse.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, clients, and subcontractors, to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Prepare and submit environmental compliance documentation to regulatory authorities, including GOSI and the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE).
  • Train project teams and site staff on environmental best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Analyze environmental data and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the adoption of digital tools for environmental monitoring, such as GIS and BIM integration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental engineering within the construction or infrastructure sectors.
  • Professional certifications such as ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, LEED AP, or Mostadam Practitioner.
  • Strong knowledge of Saudi environmental regulations, including the Saudi Building Code (SBC).
  • Proficiency in environmental monitoring tools and software, such as GIS, AutoCAD, and Primavera P6.
  • Registration with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE).
  • Familiarity with international standards such as OSHA, NEBOSH, and ISO 45001.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on Saudi Vision 2030 giga-projects or similar large-scale initiatives.
  • Expertise in advanced environmental modeling tools and software.
  • Knowledge of Mostadam certification processes and requirements.
  • Previous experience in a multi-national, multi-disciplinary project environment.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Makkah with frequent site visits to construction and infrastructure project locations.
  • Combination of office-based work and on-site environmental monitoring.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory during site visits.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions typical of the Makkah region.
  • Occasional travel within Saudi Arabia to support regional projects.
